CSA field trip

I joined my first CSA last summer and will be doing it again this year. The farm we get our vegetables from is Golden Earthworm in Long Island, NY. The first pick up is this week! If you're curious what kind of vegetables you might get in your weekly box, check out the photo set I compiled from my share last year.

The awesome organization Just Food has a CSA locator on their site for the New York City Metro area. If you're interested in joining one, there are a few CSAs still accepting applications for membership. Farmers Markets are another good choice for fresh, local vegetables if you don't have a CSA in your area.

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

-------------------------------------------------------
It feels like I worked forever on drawing this weeks recipe! It is one of my favorite desserts. Both the pie filling AND the crust are vegan friendly. One time I made an amazing crust using half butter and half oil but I've been unable to replicate it since.

Did you know that it's National Vegetarian Week in the U.K.? I realize all my recipes are in U.S. measurements, but maybe someday I'll be able to translate them to Imperial and Metric too. For now there are plenty of handy conversion charts online.

Balsamic Asparagus

Asparagus is one of my all time favorite Spring vegetables! This is a simple way to prepare it for lunch, dinner or anytime at all.

Swiss Chard Quiche

It was wonderful to meet so many Cooking Up Comics readers at MoCCA this weekend! Thanks for all the kind words, I'm so glad everyone enjoys coming to the site and is looking forward to more. The magnets were a success and I may offer them for sale online if there is interest.

I had a nice chat with Johanna Draper Carlson from Comics Worth Reading and she included me in her writeup of MoCCA weekend. I do hope I'm a gateway for her mother to start reading web comics! Thanks, Johanna!
